Plant Settings and Adjustments

These tutorials will demonstrate how to sort plants by name, filter the plant material for easy selection, and how to add new plant material to the database.

Sorting Plant Selections by Name This lesson will demonstrate how to sort the plant material by common name or botanical name in the Plant Placement command. Filtering Plant Selections Learn to filter the plant selections to make it easier to locate the material you design with on a regular basis. Adding to the Database Learn to create new plant categories, add plant material, and add plant sizes to the database. Individual Symbol Assignment and Color Learn to assign a symbol and colors to represent a plant on the design screen. Area Fill Assignment and Color In this lesson you will learn how to assign and set up a fill pattern to represent plant material on the design. Fill patterns are normally used to represent annual color or groundcover.

Plant Placement Methods

In these lessons you will learn the different methods of placing plant symbols, fill or hatching patterns.

Individual Symbol Placement Learn to place a plant symbol by setting two points on the design screen.

Calculations

In these lessons you will learn how to create a list of fill materials and perform area and volume calculations.

Area/Volume Calcs and Fill Materials Fill Materials It is necessary to build a database of fill material and assign a fill pattern prior to creating an area. Area/Volume Calcs The area or volume calculations are easily determined by outlining an area of the design screen. The information may be placed on the design and will be included with the material list or estimate/proposal. Snap Command Press and hold down the Spacebar to "snap" onto lines, curves, or arcs to make outlining an area faster and easier.

Additional Landscape Commands

These lessons will instruct you on how to place landscape accessory symbols, quantity labels and plant shadows.

Landscape Accessories Quantity Labels The Quantity Label command allows you to quickly place a label indicating the number of plants found on the design and the associated plant name. Plant Shadows Adding shadows to plant symbols can greatly enhance the appearance of a landscape design.

Other Settings

These tutorials will demonstrate settings such as the Plant Name Display Type which sorts the selections by either the common or botanical name during the plant placement process. You will also learn about counting the linear length of entities on a layer and about tied assemblies and how they can assist in creating a more accurate material list.

Landscape Options Layer Linear Lengths The Layer Linear Lengths command will allow you to add layer names to calculate the linear length of all lines drawn on the layer in the material takeoff or legend. You can create layers in the Layer Manager. For example, you may create a layer for Metal Edging or Fencing. You can then add the layer names to the list in the Layer Linear Lengths command and the total length of the entities drawn on these layers will be included in the material list and legend. Helpful Commands

These commands are not direct landscape design commands, but they are helpful just as well.

Fill Colors or Patterns Learn to use the Fill command to add color or hatching patterns to the design. Boundary Learn to use the Boundary command to quickly outline areas to fill with a color or pattern. Draw Order Learn to use the Draw Order commands to move entities on top of or below other entities on the design screen. This is a great tool for moving trees on top of shrub symbols or pipe below irrigation symbols. Array The Array command allows you to create rectangular, polar, or path array of any object or objects on the design. Rectangular Array Learn to copy or duplicate the selected object(s) a specified number of times in rows and columns at any angle. Polar Array Learn to copy or duplicate the selected object(s) in a circular pattern. Path Array Learn to copy or duplicate the selected object(s) at any spacing along an existing line or curve. Revision Cloud Revision clouds are used to draw attention to sections of a design during the review stage. The Revision Cloud command will allow you to draw a revision cloud made up of three or more points on the design screen. All revision cloud lines are automatically placed on the Revision Cloud layer in the Layer Manager.
